With a professional conductor, Richard Howarth, and leader The Westmorland Orchestra is made up of over 60 dedicated amateur musicians who rehearse weekly in Kendal from September to May and give three public concerts a year. In its performances of large-scale works, professional musicians augment the orchestra.
It presents the full range of the established symphony concert repertoire, and also newer, lesser-known works of the 20th and the 21st century. It actively supports and encourages young musicians embarking on a professional career, both within the orchestra and as soloists. The Westmorland Orchestra is now embarking on its 75th Season and is looking forward to welcoming new members of the orchestra and the audience!
Review: “This was a polished and musically convincing performance. Congratulations to all for an enjoyable evening. Kendal is indeed fortunate to be home to an amateur orchestra of such style and positive achievement.”
