We invite you to browse through the details of the concerts
in the 35th season promoted by the Lakeland Sinfonia Concert Society. The
subscription concerts will be given by the Northern Sinfonia, Lakeland Sinfonia
and for the first time, the Northern Chamber Orchestra. There will also be
visits by the Halle and BBC Philharmonic.
So we can say the number '2' plays a big part! 8
concerts & 8 soloists, 2 landmark symphonies by Beethoven, 2 symphonies by
Brahms, 2 piano concertos by Mozart, 2 of Schubert's symphonies, 2 'cello
concertos, 2 delightful pieces by Delius, 2 of the most loved concertos, Bruch
Violin No. 1 and Grieg Piano as well as tributes to 4 composers celebrating
anniversaries — Haydn, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Chopin. And lots more!
In addition there is the ever popular Christmas Charity
Concert when you help us raise significant money for two local good causes.
Please can you help spread the word?
Please do tell your friends about us, and persuade them that,
contrary to local popular belief, it is possible to obtain season tickets for
our concerts, and indeed tickets for individual concerts. If they would like a
copy of this and subsequent brochures, they should ring

Here we are
again!
Thirty five
years, and still going strong! This area is rich with music of all types, and we
are proud to continue promoting live classical music here in Kendal. This
forthcoming season we offer five orchestras and a host of conductors and
soloists. Biographical details will be given in the concert programmes.
Newcomers to
our series are the players of the Northern Chamber Orchestra. The ensemble was
formed in the 1960s and performs in all parts of the North of England, as well
making records, the majority for the Naxos label. Their Director and Leader is
Nicholas Ward (1).
We are always
pleased to welcome favourites with Kendal audiences like the Northern Sinfonia
who have been celebrating their 50th anniversary. Their Musical Director Thomas
Zehetmair (2) will be here for their first concert. Bradley Creswick (3), ever
popular, will be directing later in the Autumn, and then we welcome back Garry
Walker (4) who was last here conducting the Lakeland Sinfonia.
This season our
local ensemble with be conducted first by Ian Brown (5) who was with us last
season and we welcome him back. It will be great to have Wyn Davies (6) here for
the Christmas Charity Concert and then again in March.
The extra
concerts feature once again the Hallé and the BBC Philharmonic. Ewa Strusinska
(7) was appointed last year as Assistant Conductor of the Halle and we look
forward to her first visit to Kendal. Nicholas Kraemer (8) is Principal
Conductor of the Manchester Camerata and joins us for the BBC Philharmonic
concert which will end our season.
