Tchaikovsky and Dvorak are in the spotlight this evening via the ‘cello and Dvorak’s highly tuneful and well loved musical postcard From the New World.   Stravinsky’s ballet score is a tribute to Tchaikovsky and is based on a number of pieces by that composer, Stravinsky adding his own special brand of orchestral colour and rhythm. 

The 26-year old American cellist Alisa Weilerstein has attracted widespread recognition for playing that combines natural virtuosity and technical assurance with impassioned musicianship.
