“This
Italian Symphony will be the jolliest piece I have ever written” –
Mendelssohn’s opinion of this most popular of his works is certainly
confirmed by this exuberant music. Samuel Barber’s Adagio and the
second Horn Concerto of Richard Strauss represents the 20th
Century while Mozart’s Paris Symphony, unashamedly aimed at the
Parisian audiences and their likes and dislikes, opens the evening.
David Pyatt gave a superb performance last season and you
will be as pleased as us to welcome him back.
