There is a
great deal of 'personal' music throughout the season and the third
symphony of Brahms is no exception. Mahler's lyrical and tender songs
include the only personal expression of love he composed for his wife
Alma.
We are pleased to welcome Jane Irwin who studied at
Lancaster University and the RNCM before starting her glittering
international career.
Haydn was happy with the reception given to his 101st symphony in London
in 1794. It was later given the nickname of 'The Clock' after the
`tick-tock' rhythm that permeates the slow movement.
